Solar light installation, Trout Creek Pocket Park, Truckee, CA.
Let's make this pandemic a little more tolerable with a bike park that the whole community can enjoy, right next to all the fun to be had at Veterans Park. There's also plenty of opportunity to build multi-use singletrack in the forests around us and increase our wildfire safety at the same time.
Update
On December 5, 2021, we completed the 1st of 4 phases at the Willow Creek Bike Park section of Veterans Park in Willow Creek, CA. We built the junior pump track and quietly opened it to riders on Monday morning. We had a few volunteers who helped with this hurried build in between rains, and we thank them from the bottom of our muddy pedals. Check it out:
Update
April 11, 2022. Phase two is mostly complete. This includes the elevated starting mound, and advanced pump and jump lines, and some developed hillside lines, among other features. It's open for riding sunrise to sunset whenever the track isn't muddy or actively being developed by CSD employees or volunteers. Bring your bike, a helmet, closed-toe shoes and enjoy! There's something for every level of rider, including this: https://youtube.com/shorts/vr7S1kCI3UQ Also, May 21, 2022, the Willow Creek Fire-Wise Fair will be happening at Veterans Park. The Bike Park will be open and have some special events planned alongside the Fire-Wise Fair.
2025 - TLWF continues working to maintain the Willow Creek Bike Park, develop the park with professional input from Truckee Bike Park this spring and summer, support the Mountain Bike Tribal Trail Alliance (MBTTA) with its trail development, youth bike rides, race production and operations like the Paradise Royale race in Shelter Cove, and more. We're busy: see you out there!
Working to make household hazardous waste easier and safer to dispose of. We're working to start free collection and drop off service in Willow Creek. This is a surprisingly formidable task. Insights welcome.
2025 - we continue bringing small but numerous deliveries of household toxic waste to Eureka's HHW Disposal site on W Hawthorne St whenever we go to Eureka. Mainly paint and old batteries, sometimes automotive fluids from DIY mechanics. We're somewhere near the 500 gallon mark.
Help get a skate park, walking track, bocce ball court, and other amenities built. We can put you in touch with people ready to work on projects and who are getting boots on the ground.
UPDATE - March 4, 2023 - the Willow Creek Community Services District has received two grants totaling some $1.9M. The Prop 68 Per Capita Grant and the Prop 68 Rural Recreation and Tourism Grant will be discussed at the upcoming Mar. 8th Rec. Committee meeting. The bike park has a placeholder amount of $100k earmarked presently, with other recreational components and funding amounts to be considered. We are excited about this opportunity and encourage people to offer input about what they'd like to see at Veterans Park.
2025 - Draft skate park designs are out, and we're excited to support the WCCSD with design input and boots on the ground. The longer term issue will be funding maintenance, as the WCCSD simply doesn't have the revenue stream at the moment to hire the additional staff needed for regular operations and maintenance. This is where creative, equitable solutions are needed.
We also continue working with the Willow Creek CSD to revamp the Bike Park, bringing in Truckee Bike Park to make it even more rad.
